PiercingEpisode two of Skin Art with Noel Boyd takes a look at microdermal and surface piercings. These types of piercings are a little different from those through the nose, ear lobe or belly button as microdermal piercings use an anchor embedded in the skin to secure the stud. Resident piercer, Jason at Marc Pinto’s Primitive Tattoo Singapore performs the procedure in this video. Jason appears to make the pocket or hole in the skin with a large needle after which the anchor is then inserted. This procedure can also be done with a dermal punch which some say is better but perhaps the dermal punch method works better on thicker skin. The insertion of the anchor is done next, which can often be more painful than making the hole, but once this is done it’s smooth sailing.

Part two of the video demonstrates a surface piercing. Enjoy!!
